The San Francisco Bay area has a vibrant Irish music scene. From its various seisiúns, a group of East Bay musicians came together in 2021 to form Sixpenny.
Sixpenny is dedicated to traditional Celtic music, played on acoustic instruments. This is lively music that makes audiences smile and raise a pint! Their fiddle-forward approach gives a propulsive energy to the rhythmic beat of jigs, the dance music of reels, rousing songs and ballads.
The members of Sixpenny are:
Jean Olds – fiddle
Ken Passeri – fiddle, mandolin, guitar
Nancy McGhee – bass, cello, bodhran
Larry Milder – guitar, mandolin, octave mandolin
Lauren Nourse – flute, penny whistle
Sixpenny has performed at the largest Celtic events in the Bay area, including the Scottish Highland Gathering and Games, and the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day festival, as well as at pubs, wineries and clubs across the Bay area.
