Livermore Half Marathon: Express Run Plan
The Livermore Valley Half Marathon is back! This award winning course is both beautiful and challenging, but no matter what skill level you are…it’s going to be fun! The key to making your half marathon experience a great one starts with the right perspective and preparation. Personally, I was really hoping to PR this race. However, after a busy holiday season and finding myself sick and sidelined from running for most of January I will have to adjust my expectations. My new goal is to use this race to kickstart my fitness for 2022. I am hoping to have a fun day, enjoy the gorgeous views, and celebrate our awesome community.
All that being said, I still need to make sure I have the minimum fitness and endurance to finish with a smile…which means I need a plan. And I’m guessing I’m not the only one who is perhaps in the same predicament. Luckily I asked my Ironman coach to create a very basic 5 week run plan, one that I could share with you!
So whether you’ve been running for months or you’re playing catch up after taking a break (like me)…my Coach Shawn is helping us out with an Express Run Plan!

A couple of tips for you:
- Choose any 4 days during the week to complete your run
- All runs should be aerobic base
- Recommended HR: either 180 minus your age OR resting heart rate x 2-2.5
- Consider easy running or walk running
- RACE DAY: Have fun, be positive, don’t start too fast, pace yourself, and save some energy to finish strong!
Yes, we realize that 5 weeks is not the proper time to build for 13.1 miles. But some of us are determined to make this a worthwhile training day or legit all-out race! Whatever your goal, we can’t wait to see you at the starting line on March 6, 2022. Let’s do this!!!
