5 Home Design Trends for 2022

As Realtors, a large part of our job is to pay close attention to all market related changes. Whether we are following market trends, inventory, or interest rates…we pride ourselves on being a one stop shop for all things when it comes to your home, lifestyle, and community.

While we live and breathe real estate data, we also LOVE keeping current on design trends. And since we find ourselves touring hundreds of homes and exploring new home developments each year we get to experience many of these design elements first hand.

Many of our clients have a great eye for design and have transformed the properties we have helped them purchase. We love the chance to come back and tour our past clients’ beautiful homes, as well as help new clients with resources and trends so they can make tasteful updates which add more value.

Over the past several years we’ve seen a lot of modern farmhouse design trends. Color palettes included white, black, and grey tones, infused with lighter and more natural wood furniture and flooring. While we LOVE these elements, we also are ready to see some slight changes in 2022.

Here are 5 design trends we anticipate over the coming year.

  1. Traditional Style: Yes, there is a place for modern and farmhouse vibes, but there is nothing more classic and timeless than infusing traditional pieces to warm up your home in 2022. Think of easy elegance and comfort, and warm and inviting spaces.
  2. Patterns: Big or small patterns on unique wallpaper, tile, and even window treatments! Patterns can add interest and romance to your space.
  3. Texture: Adding more texture into your home is an easy way to embrace the traditional trend. Think reeded details on wood furniture, scalloped edges and lace details woven into a traditional landscape.
  4. Softened Kitchen: A white classic kitchen is beautiful and timeless but can occasionally feel a little stark. We are seeing designers soften the modern kitchen by infusing art work, incorporating light fixtures/lamps and unexpected decor in general to soften the hard lines of appliances and the modern kitchen.
  5. Warmer material and color palettes: We LOVE grey, we get it, it’s beautiful…BUT…what brings about a truly cozy and warmer vibe are terracotta, deep brown hues and warm natural tones. Think taupe cabinetry, natural black soapstone countertops, or warm gold/bronze veined calacatta marble bringing the outdoors in. Watch as this becomes the major trend to watch for this year.

Have fun, and enjoy playing with one, two or even all 5 of these design elements this year!
